Maithili jezik (मैथिली, maithilī) je jedan od indoarijevskih jezika, indoiranske grane, i uglavnom se govori u istočno indijskoj državi Bihar, u njenom severnom delu, kao i u Nepalu. U Indiji ima oko 30 miliona govornika, a u Nepalu oko 2,8 miliona.

Ovaj jezik je blizak hindiju i bengalskom jeziku, i smatran je njihovim dijalektoim. Godine 2003, jezik maithili je stekao status posebnog jezika u Indiji.
Maithili jezik je prvobitno zapisivan sopstvenim pismom, kasnije bengalskim, a danas devanagarijem.
Literatura na maithili jeziku postoji već oko 800 godina. Najznačajniji književnik, koji je stvarao na maithili jeziku, je pesnik Viđapati, koji je živeo na kraju 14. i početkom 15. veka. Njegove pesme se i danas pevaju na svim proslavama u Biharu.
