Urdaneta is ane o the 18 municipalities (municipios) that mak up the Venezuelan state o Aragua an, accordin tae the 2011 census bi the Naitional Institute o Statistics o Venezuela, the municipality haes a population o 21,271. [1] The toun o Barbacoas is the shire toun o the Urdaneta Municipality.[2] The municipality is one of several in Venezuela named "Urdaneta Municipality" in honour of Venezuelan independence hero Rafael Urdaneta.

This amunts tae 1.3% o the state's population.[3] The municipality's population density is 10.51 inhabitants per square kilometre (27.2/sq mi).[4]
The mayor o the Urdaneta Municipality is Sotero González, re-electit on 31 October 2004 wi 32% o the vote.[5][6] The municipality is dividit intae fower pairishes; Capital Urdaneta, Las Peñitas, San Francisco de Cara, an Taguay.[2]
