Thisted municipality is a municipality (Dens: kommune) in North Denmark Region, Denmark. The municipality covers an aurie o 1,072 km², an haes a total population o 45,549 (2008). Its mayor is Erik Hove Olesen, a member o the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne). The main toun an the steid o its municipal cooncil is the toun o Thisted.
On 1 January 2007 Thisted municipality wis, as the result o Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" o 2007), mergit wi Hanstholm an Sydthy municipalities tae form a new Thisted municipality.
Thisted municipality is roughly identical wi the traditional destrict o Thy, except that the municipality includes a sma portion o the destrict Hanherred, but no the soothmaist peninsulae o Thy, Thyholm.
Thisted is the birthplace o geographer Conrad Malte-Brun an writer Jens Peter Jacobsen.
