Guaviare wis creatit on 4 Julie 1991 bi the new Constitution o Colombie. Up tae that pynt, it wis a naitional territory that operatit as a Commissariat, segregatit frae territory o the than Commissariat o Vaupés on 23 Dizember 1977.
