ଇଷ୍ଟଇଣ୍ଡିଆ କମ୍ପାନି ଅଧିନରେ କାମ କରୁଥିବା ଭାରତୀୟ ସିପାହୀମାନଙ୍କଦ୍ୱାରା ୧୮୫୭ ମସିହାରେ ହୋଇଥିବା ଏହି ବିଦ୍ରୋହକୁ ଭାରତର ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା ସଂଗ୍ରାମର ପ୍ରଥମ ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନ ବୋଲି କୁହାଯାଇଥାଏ । ବନ୍ଧୁକରେ ବ୍ୟବହୃତ ଗୁଳି ଉପରେ ଗାଇ ଓ ଘୁଷୁରୀ ଚର୍ବିର ବ୍ୟବହାରକୁ ନେଇ କ୍ଷୁବ୍ଧ ହୋଇଥିବା ଭାରତୀୟ ସିପାହୀମାନେ ଏହି ବିଦ୍ରୋହ କରିଥିଲେ । ବନ୍ଧୁକରେ ଗୁଳି ପୁରାଇବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ ସିପାହୀମାନଙ୍କୁ ଉପର ଆବରଣକୁ ଦାନ୍ତରେ ଛିଣ୍ଡାଇବାକୁ ପଡୁଥିଲା, ଏହା ଉଭୟ ହିନ୍ଦୁ ଓ ମୁସଲମାନ ସିପାହୀଙ୍କ ଧାର୍ମିକ ଭାବନାକୁ ପରିପନ୍ଥି ଥିବାରୁ ସେମାନେ ଏହାର ଦୃଢ଼ବିରୋଧ କରୁଥିବାରୁ ପ୍ରଭାବି
