Le Vernet o Le Vernet de Siula (en francés e oficialamant, le Vernet, Vernet o Vernet-sur-Sioule) z-es un vilatge occitan d’Alèir, que z-èra una comunautat e que devenguèt una comuna en 1790. Aparteniá al canton de Sant Porçanh de Siula.[1]
Le (article bas auvernhat) Vernet, cf. latin Parrochia de Verneto (s. XIII).[2]
Los noms de tipe Vernet son compausats dau gallés verno-, verna, « vèrn, vèrne, vèrnhe » e dau sufixe collectiu (latin) -etum (Dauzat e Rostaing) [3] o que venon dau gallés uerneton, « verneda, vernheda, vernet, vèrnha » (Delamarre) [4].
Sa glèisa fuguèt bastida per Sant Gilabèrt, abat de Neufontaines. Z-es atestada en 1105. Fuguèt destrusida a la revolucion.[5] En 1802 la parròquia fuguèt restachada a aquela de Brot. Le Vernet z-èra de la chastelaniá de Chantela. En 1569, omptava 32 fuecs per un renda de 100 liuras.[6] A la revolucion, deven una comuna del chanton de Sant Porçanh de Siula e del districte de Gatnat, dins lo departament d’Alèir. En 1831[7] z-es reünit a Brot dins la comuna de Brot e Le Vernet, chanton d’Escuròlas.
