Şiran, også Karaca, er en by i provinsen Gümüşhane i Svartehavsregionen i Tyrkia. Byen ligger på grensen mellom regionen Øst-Anatolia og Svartehavsregionen. Hovedveien fra Erzincan, som leder mot Ziganapasset og er hovedferdselsåren mellom de to regionene, går gjennom Şiran. Ifølge folketellingen i 2010 var befolkningen i distriktet på 17 600, mens 8 207 bodde i selve byen.[1] Distriktet dekker et område på 928 km²,[2] og byen ligger på 1 457 meter over havet.

Navnet kommer fra persisk og betyr «løvene», men navnet stammer trolig fra det greske navnet Cheriana'' (Χερίανα), som tyrkerene tok da de bosatte seg i regionen, før slaget ved Manzikert.
Mange av de nordligere landsbyene i distriktet hadde en minoritet av folk som snakket pontisk gresk frem til 1922, da grekere og tyrkere ble tvangsflyttet til sine hjemland. Fremdeles kan noen av beboerne i området spore sine aner tilbake til grekere, folk som måtte konvertere til islam, så sent som mot slutten av det 19. århundre. Dette kommer frem fra folketellingene under Det osmanske rike, og i at landsbyer har skiftet navn (for eksempel het byen «Evren» før «Sefker»).
