Velenje (tysk Wöllan) er ein by og ein kommune i nordaust i Slovenia med litt over 30 000 innbyggjarar.

Stari Velenje, den gamle delen av byen ved foten av borga, vart nemnd første gong i 1264 som ein liten marknadsby. Han var eit senter for handverk og handel. Då det vart starta opp gruvedrift etter lignitt etter den andre verdskrigen voks byen kraftig. Då presidenten i Jugoslavia Tito døydde, byen omdøypt til Titovo Velenje i 1981 ,men det gamle namnet vart gjeven tilbake i 1991 kort tid før Slovenia fekk sjølvstende.
Velenje er hovudkvarter for Gorenje, som produserer hushaldningsartiklar.
