Samuel Langhorne Clemens (30. november1835–21. april1910), betre kjend under psevdonymetMark Twain, var ein namngjeten og populær amerikansk humorist, forfattar, journalist og forelesar. Han er mest kjend for romanane sine om Huckleberry Finn og Tom Sawyer. Forfattaren William Faulkner meinte Twain var «den amerikanske litteraturens far». Forutan romanar skreiv han og reiseskildringar og samfunnskritiske reportasjar om korrupsjon og klasseskille i samtida. Twain var fødd i Florida i Missouri og døydde i Redding i Connecticut.
