Verdsmeisterskapen i handball 1971 for kvinner, den 4. i rekka, vart avvikla i tida 11. til 19. desember i Nederland. 9 land deltok i turneringa: Aust-Tyskland, Danmark, Japan, Jugoslavia, Nederland, Noreg, Romania, Ungarn og Vest-Tyskland.
Frå gruppespelet gjekk dei seks beste laga til ei todelt hovudrunde. Basert på plasseringa i desse to gruppene møttest laga til plasseringskamp, herunder finale og bronsefinale. I finalen vann Aust-Tyskland med 11 mot Jugoslavias 8 mål. Kristina Hochmuth vart mestskårande for det austtyske laget med i alt 20 mål i turneringa. Også Waltraud Kretzschmar hadde ei sentral rolle i det austtyske mannskapet. Ungarn sigra 12 – 11 i bronsekampen mot Romania.
Noregs lag enda på sjuandeplassen, etter sigrar over Nederland og Japan. Det norske mannskapet bestod av Eldbjørg Willassen, Siri Øverseth, Liv Fauske, Karen Fladset, Lille Storberg, Astrid Skei, Inger Johanne Tveter, Sigrid Halvorsen, Bjørg Andersen, Sissel Brenne, Berit Moen, Anne Gangsø, Astri Knudsen, Unni Anisdahl, Aud Andresen.
