Fon (frå gresk φωνή, 'lyd, røyst') eller språklyd er den minste lydeininga ein kan dela ei språkleg ytring inn i. Til dømes kan dei tre lydane som bokstavane f, o og n står for i «fon» vera språklydar. Den delen av språkvitskapen som er vigd studiet av språklydane, korleis dei blir skapt i taleorgana og dei fysiske eigenskapane deira, blir kalla fonetikk. Læra om funksjonen til språklydane i språket blir kalla fonologi.
Ein fon er ei lydleg realisering av ein allofon. Fleire liknande fonar kan høyra til den same allofonen. Den norske skarre-r-en vert til dømes rekna som éin allofon ([ʁ]), men finst som tre ulike fonar: stemt velar frikativ [ɣ], velar approksimant [ɰ] og ustemt uvular frikativ [ʁ].
