Ringvassøy (nordsamisk Ráneš) er den sjette største øya i Noreg med eit areal på 656 km². Øya ligg i kommunane Karlsøy og Tromsø i Troms. Namnet Ringvassøy kjem av ordet rind f. «bergrygg», øya med fjellryggane.[1]

Det høgaste punktet på øya er Soltindan på 1051 meter over havet. Skogsfjordvatnet er eit 10 km² stort vatn på øya og den største innsjøen på ei øy i Noreg.
Den sørlege delen av Ringvassøy består av tonalittiske til anorthosittiske og gabbroiske migmatittiske gneis.[2] Ein prøve av den tonalitiske gneisen gav ein arkaisk U–Pb zirkon alder på 2841 millionar år.[3]
Det 10 km breie og 30 km lange Ringvassøy grønsteinsbelte utgjer den nordlege delen av Ringvassøya og består av ulike felsiske til mafiske metavulkanske bergartar av tholeiitisk til kalsium-alkalisk affinitet.[4] U–Pb zirkon alder på 2849 millionar år og 2835 millionar år.[5]
Både gneisen og grønsteinane er gjennomskorne av mange mafiske gangar.
