Place heeft haar high school doorlopen aan de Nathan Hale High School in haar geboorteplaats Tulsa (Oklahoma), hierna ging zij studeren aan de University of Tulsa in Tulsa. Na haar studie verhuisde zij naar Hollywood voor haar carrière als actrice en scenarioschrijfster.
