William Z. Shetter (17 augustus 1927) is een Amerikaanse taalkundige. Hij is opeleid an de University of Pennsylvania en de University of California en hef les egeven an de University of Wisconsin, Bryn Mawr College en Indiana University. Shetter hef hum bezigeholden mit de cultuur en talen van de Nederlaanden en de geschiedenis van de taalkunde.[1]
Bijdrage an Nedersaksische studies
An de Nedersaksische taalkunde hef Shetter bijedreugen mit zien artikel aover 't Zwols, 'Phonemics of the Zwolle Dialect: Synchronic and Diachronic', det in 1958 verscheen in Language, 't miest gezaghebbende tiedschrift op 't gebied van de taalwetenschoppen.[2] Dit artikel kwaamp töt stand naodet hum de taalkundige G.G. Kloeke miteneumen had naor Zwolle.
Nao zien pensionering is Shetter hum gaon bezigholden mit contemplatie. Hij is lid van 't Religieus Geneutschop van Vrienden (de quakers).
