ട്രൈലോബൈറ്റ്

ആർത്രോപോഡ വിഭാഗത്തിൽ പെട്ട കടലിൽ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന ജീവികൾ ആണ് ട്രൈലോബൈറ്റുകൾ . കാംബ്രിയൻ കാലം മുതൽ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇവയ്ക്ക് പാലിയോസോയിക് കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ വംശനാശം സംഭവിച്ചു. ട്രൈലോബൈറ്റുകളുടെ ശരീരം പല കഷണങ്ങൾ ചേർന്നതാണ്. ഓരോ കഷണത്തിലും ഓരോ ജോടി കാലുകളുണ്ടായിരിക്കും. തലയ്ക്കുമുകളിലായാണ് ഇവയുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ. ഞണ്ടുകളെപ്പോലെ കട്ടിയുള്ള ഇവയ്ക്ക് കട്ടിയുള്ള പുറന്തോടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ട്രൈലോബൈറ്റുകൾ പലതരക്കാരുണ്ടയിരുന്നു, ഇവയുടെ 17000 ത്തിൽ പരം ഉപനിരകളെ ഇത് വരെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിടുണ്ട്. മണ്മറഞ്ഞുപോയ ഇവയെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള വിവരങ്ങൾ ലഭിക്കുന്നത് ഫോസിലുകളിൽ നിന്നാണ്.
