ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ വനംവകുപ്പിലെ ജർമൻകാരനായ ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായിരുന്നു സർ.ഡീറ്റ്രിക് ബ്രാന്റിസ്. (Dietrich Brandis). (ജനനം മാർച്ച് 31, 1824 – മരണം മെയ് 29, 1907). മധ്യരേഖാ വനപഠനത്തിന്റെ പിതാവായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. സസ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ Brandis എന്ന സൂചന ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചാണ്.
