No 1793. līdz 1920. gadam (ar pārtraukumu no 1807. līdz 1815. gadam, kad tā atradās Varšavas hercogistes sastāvā) ietilpa Prūsijā. Pēc Pirmā pasaules kara iekļāvās atjaunotajā Polijas valstī.
Vieglatlēta, olimpiskā čempiona Zdzislava Kšiškovjaka (Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak, 1929 - 2003) dzimtā pilsēta.
