Grand Theft Auto (spēļu sērija)

Grand Theft Auto ir brīvā stila datorspēle, kuru izveidojis Deivs Džons. Galvenokārt to izstrādā skotu kompānija Rockstar North (pirms tam DMA Design) un publicē Rockstar Games. Spēle sastāv no darbības, piedzīvojumu, braukšanas, lomu, šaušanas un sacensību spēļu elementiem. Spēļu sērija ir par vairākiem kriminālnoziedzniekiem, kuri cenšas kļūt bagāti. Kopā sērija ir pārdevusi vairāk kā 405 miljonu kopiju.

Spēļu sērija ir pazīstama gan ar "atvērtās pasaules" koncepta popularizēšanu, gan ar savu skandalozo saturu. Ginesa rekordu grāmata 2008. gadā nosauca GTA par skandalozāko spēļu sēriju.^[1] Jau kopš pirmās spēles tās kritiķi ir pretrunīgi vērtējuši spēlē esošo iespēju spēlētājam ar auto notriekt garāmgājējus. Vairākās valstīs šī iemesla dēļ dažas vai visas no spēlēm ir tikušas aizliegtas.^[2] Tāpat spēles ir izraisījušas dažādus skandālus prostitūcijas un dzērājšoferu attēlošanas dēļ. Spēļu sērija pat ir vairākkārt neveiksmīgi iesūdzēta tiesā, vainojot to par dažādiem īstiem noziegumiem.^[3] Par spīti skandāliem GTA ir viena no ienesīgākajām izklaides franšīzēm pasaulē (jo īpaši GTA V) un to atzinīgi vērtē spēlētāji un profesionālie kritiķi. GTA III, San Andreas un Vice City ir otrā, piektā un sestā labākā PlayStation 2 spēle, savukārt GTA IV ir otrā, GTA III ir piektā un GTA V ir astotā labākā spēle vēsturē pēc Metacritic datiem.^[4]
