Pagramantis – miestelis Tauragės rajono savivaldybėje, krašto kelio 164 Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė atkarpos Tauragė–Šilalė pusiaukelėje, Pagramančio regioniniame parke. Seniūnaitijos centras. Stovi medinė Pagramančio Švč. Mergelės Marijos Nekaltojo Prasidėjimo bažnyčia (nuo 1774 m.; su XIX a. varpine), veikia Pagramančio pagrindinė mokykla, biblioteka, paštas (LT-73021). Dabar Pagramantyje yra veikiančios kapinės, įkurtos XIX a. pabaigoje.

Miesteliu prateka Akmena. Upės kairiajame krante saugoma Pagramančio atodanga. Kultūros paminklas – Pagramančio piliakalnis su senovės gyvenviete prie Akmenos ir Gramančios upių santakos, taip pat stūkso Naujininkų piliakalnis. Miestelis išsidėstęs Pagramančio miškų masyve.
LDK žemėlapiuose miestelis žymimas Pottagen vardu. Dabartinis miestelio pavadinimas kilęs nuo šalia pratekančio Gramančios upelio vardo – tai vandenvardinis vietovardis. Liaudies etimologija byloja, kad Gramančia buvusi labai graži bajoro Pagramančio dukra, kuri nepajėgusi išsirinkti jaunikio ir dėl to virtusi upeliu.[2]
Minimas nuo XVI a., nors šiose vietose gyventa ir anksčiau, dar I tūkstantmetyje (tai byloja Pagramančio piliakalnis). LDK laikais Pagramantyje buvo dvaro centras. Dvaro šeimininkas – Jonas Domininkas Lopacinskis, Žemaičių vyskupas, 1744 m. pastatė medinę bažnyčią ir pavedė Šilalės klebono žiniai. 1780 m. gyventojai kreipėsi į Žemaičių vyskupą Joną Giedraitį prašydami jų filiją perkelti į parapiją.
Pirmuoju klebonu ir parapijos įkūrėju laikomas kunigas Radvilavičius. Jis rado pirmtako Arevičiaus pradėtą bylą dėl bažnytinės žemės ribų, bei apgriuvusią bažnyčią. Parapijai priklausė 2 valakai ir 6 margai žemės su 6 baudžiauninkais. Naujasis klebonas, padedamas parapijiečių, pastatė špitolę (prieglaudą našlaičiams, ligoniams, luošiems, akliems ir karšinčiams). Po to Pagramantyje buvo pastatytas kitas didelis 6 kambarių namas ir paskirtas parapijos mokyklai.
XIX a. Pagramantis buvo Raseinių apskrities miestelis.[3] Vyskupo Motiejaus Valančiaus laikais, nuo 1841 m., veikė parapijinė mokykla, kurią 1853 lankė 10 mokinių. 1914–1951 m. – pradinė mokykla, vėliau nepilna vidurinė. 1919 m. čia mokytojavo Serbenta, jo iniciatyva netoli Pagramančio įkurtos laisvamanių kapinės.
Sovietmečiu buvo S. Kirovo kolūkio centrinė gyvenvietė.
2010 m. gruodžio 7 d. patvirtintas Pagramančio herbas.

Pagramančio šnekta priklauso pietų žemaičiams raseiniškiams. Ją išsamiai aprašė Petras Jonikas knygoje „Pagramančio tarmė“, išleistoje 1939 m.

Juozas Mažeika (1907–1976), vienas žymiausių Lietuvos operos solistų, gimė Pagramantyje.
Pagramančio vietovės pavadinimą ir čionykščius „šnekučius“ išpopuliarino rašytojo Petro Cvirkos kūrinys „Pagramančio šnekučiai“.[15] Šiuo vardu vadinama kraštiečių susibūrimo šventė,[16] profesionalių autorių sukurti kūriniai:
