Motu proprio est genus rescriptorum papalorum, ita appellatus ob locutionem "motu proprio" -- id est, provisiones rescripti fuerunt decisae ex Papae personale, non ex consilio Cardinalibus aut alia, sed pro rationibus personalibus suis. Motu proprio habet forma decreti, stylistice est similis brevis vice bullae; nihilominus, differat ex ambis quia Motu proprio non requirat ni signum ni contrasubscriptum.
