Linea ecliptica (lingua Graeca antiqua) ἔκλειψις ékleipsis[1] est illa linea in caelo qua sol sicut visus est a tellure planeta semel per annum caelum circumire videtur. Quod tellus semel per annum circum solem currit, apparet in caelo ut visum est a tellure, tamquam sol inter stellas fixas in linea ecliptica migraret zodiacum percurrens.
Linea ecliptica est circulus magnus in sphaera caelesti quo planities eclipticae determinatur. Obliquitas ecliptica est angulus inter planitiem eclipticae et planitiem aequatorialem. Haec linea aequatoriale determinatur.
