Charcovia[1] (Ucrainice Харків, Charkiv, Russice Харьков, Charkov), vel Zacharpolis[2], est secunda a maxima Ucrainae urbe, fere 1448 milia (anno 2017) incolarum habens. Urbs est caput regionis Charcoviensis et magna industriae, scientiae, culturaeque sedes. Etiam est valens sedes transportationis, stationes ferriviarum, et aeroportum habens. Urbi est ferrivia metropolitana, cui sunt viginti octo stationes.

Urbs condita est anno 1654 loco oppidi antiquioris ruinarum a Cosacis ab hetmanatu ut sedes Regimentorum Cosacorum Slobodensium. Fortasse secundum flumen loci nomen suum recepit, et dein gradatim crescit, sedes administrativa facta. In Imperio Russico Charcovia ab anno 1765 gubernii Slobidskio-Ukrainensis (Ucrainicae) et ab anno 1835 gubernii Charcoviensis metropolis fuit. Universitas Charcoviensis hac in urbe anno 1805 condita est. Ab anno 1917 ad annum 1934, Charcovia erat caput Ucrainicae Sovieticae Socialisticae Rei Publicae, postea caput regionis, anno 1932 creati mansit.
