Cena δωδεκάθεος seu "duodecim deorum" ab Octaviano iuvene privatim celebrata est. Ibi deorum dearumque habitu discubuerunt convivae; Octavianus ipse pro Apolline ornatus est.
De hac cena in opere Suetonii De vita Caesarum legimus, qui citat epistulam M. Antonii singulorum convivarum nomina "amarissime" enumerantem. Citat et carmen populare:
"Auxit cenae rumorem summa tunc in civitate penuria ac fames," addit Suetonius, "adclamatumque est postridie: omne frumentum deos comedisse et Caesarem esse plane Apollinem, sed Tortorem, quo cognomine is deus quadam in parte urbis colebatur."[2]
Cenam δωδεκάθεον Beniaminus Jonson poëta scaenicus imitavit in fabula Poetaster quem anno 1602 edidit. Ibi autem Ovidium symposiarchum fuisse praetendit et Iovis personam sustinere, Augustum in cenam irripuisse Ovidiumque in exsilium misisse.
