Calafat urbs Dacoromanicum circa 17.400 incolarum et pars Valachiae est, quae ad Dolj circulum pertinet. Calafat ad flumen Danubium et ad finem Romaniae cum Bulgaria sita est. Vici Basarabi, Ciupercenii Vechi atque Golenți etiam ab oppido Calafat administrati sunt.

Oppidum saeculo 14 a colonis Genuensibus conditum est. Ibi naves reparati sunt. Die 14 Septembris 1828 hic pugna inter Russi et Turci facta est. Post hunc annum vicus ad oppidum ratione auctus est. Anno 1921 Calafat tandem oppidum (Dacoromanice Comună urbană), anno 2001 urbs (municipui) declaratum est.
Anno 2011 hic 17.336 homines habitabant, inter eos 15.567 Dacoromanorum atque 887 Zingari. [1]
