なお、湿潤環境下の方が創傷の治療経過が良いことは、欧米においては1960年代後半から臨床報告で知られており、これを応用した治療法は Moist Wound Healing と呼ばれている。 消毒を行った上でガーゼを貼る治療は今なお主流だが、湿潤療法の治療を行う医師も増えている。
