House of Councillors

参議院（さんぎいん、英語: House of Councillors）は、日本の立法府たる国会（両院制）の議院のひとつである（日本国憲法第42条）。前身は貴族院。 両院制を採用する諸国の上院に相当し、下院である衆議院（しゅうぎいん）とともに国会を構成している。その特質から、「良識の府」とも呼ばれる。

参議院議長（さんぎいんぎちょう、英語: President of the House of Councillors）は、日本の国会・参議院（上院）の議長。 参議院議長は、参議院において秩序を保持し、議事を整理し、議院の事務を監督し、参議院を代表する（国会法第19条）。
