bibcode とは、参照文献を指定するための識別子で、天文学に関わるデータシステムで使用されている。もともとはSIMBADやNASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database用に開発されていたが、現在[いつ?]ではNASA 天体物理データシステムなど他のシステムでも広く活用されている[1][2]。
書式
コードの長さは19文字に固定され、次の書式が定められている。

Yは文献が発表された西暦を、Jは発表の場を所定の略記号で表す。雑誌などの逐次刊行物で発表された場合、Vには巻数、Mにはセクション（レターの場合は"L"など）が入る。Pは掲載ページの先頭を表し、Aは著者の姓の頭文字を示している。それぞれの領域が規定の文字数より短くなる場合は空白を "."（ピリオド）で補う。その際にJは左詰めに、VとPは右詰めにする[1][2]。以下にbibcodeの例を示す。

最初の例 "1974AJ.....79..819H" は、1974年に発表された文献で、雑誌 The Astronomical Journal （略記号: AJ）第79巻の819ページ目から掲載されていることを意味する。末尾の "H" は著者の姓 (Heintz) の頭文字を表している。
