ロンドン出身。母はロシア出身のバレリーナ、イリーナ・バロノヴァ(en:Irina Baronova)^[1][2][3]。セントラル・スクール・オブ・スピーチ・アンド・ドラマに学ぶ。1983年のテレビミニシリーズ『戦争の嵐』で第41回ゴールデングローブ賞助演女優賞（シリーズ・ミニシリーズ・テレビ映画部門）にノミネートされた^[4][5]。

アメリカ合衆国の俳優スティーヴ・マーティンは元夫（1986年 - 1994年）^[6][7]。
