Academy Award untuk Tata Rias dan Tata Rambut Terbaik (bahasa Inggris: Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling) adalah Academy Award yang diberikan kepada pencapaian terbaik dalam tata rias dan tata rambut untuk film. Secara tradisional, tiga film dinominasikan setiap tahun dengan pengecualian pada awal tahun 1980-an dan 2002 ketika hanya ada dua nominasi; pada tahun 1999, ketika ada empat nominasi. Dimulai dengan Academy Awards ke-92, lima film dinominasikan.^[1]

Kategori kompetitif diciptakan pada tahun 1981 sebagai Academy Award untuk Tata Rias Terbaik, setelah akademi menerima keluhan bahwa pekerjaan tata rias di The Elephant Man (1980) tidak dihormati. Meskipun tidak ada penghargaan yang diberikan kepada The Elephant Man, seluruh kategori yang didedikasikan untuk menghormati efek tata rias dalam film diciptakan untuk upacara berikutnya. Sebelumnya, penata rias hanya memenuhi syarat untuk mendapatkan penghargaan prestasi khusus atas karya mereka.

Sebelum nominasi, daftar pendek judul dipilih oleh komite eksekutif cabang tata rias dan klip-klip ditayangkan oleh para anggota cabang pada "bake-off" tahunan. Setelah hanya dua film yang masuk daftar pendek pada tahun 2002, ditetapkan peraturan yang mengharuskan tujuh finalis dipilih setiap tahun dan tiga film teratas menjadi nominasi. Dimulai pada tahun 2020, daftar pendek bertambah dari tujuh finalis menjadi sepuluh.^[1]

Pada tahun 2012, kategori ini diberi nama saat ini untuk digunakan dalam Academy Awards ke-85 dan seterusnya.^[2][3] Penata rias Rick Baker memegang rekor kemenangan terbanyak (7) dan nominasi terbanyak (11) untuk penghargaan ini.
