R.L. Stine

Robert Lawrence Stine (lahir 8 Oktober 1943 ),^[1] dikenal juga sebagai R. L. Stine dan Jovial Bob Stine, adalah penulis dan produser Amerika Serikat. Stine, yang dijuluki "Stephen King-nya sastra anak",^[2] adalah penulis dari ratusan novel fiksi horor, termasuk seri Fear Street, Goosebumps, Rotten School, Mostly Ghostly, dan The Nightmare Room. Kehidupan awal

Stine lahir di Columbus, Ohio pada tanggal 8 Oktober 1943,^[3] putra dari pasangan Yahudi, Anne (née Feinstein), seorang ibu rumah tangga, dan Lewis Stine, seorang pegawai perusahaan perkapalan.^[4][5] Ia mulai menulis sejak berusia 9 tahun saat ia menemukan sebuah mesin tik di lotengnya, dan kemudian mulai menulis cerita pendek dan humor.^[6] Stine lulus dari Ohio State University (OSU) pada tahun 1965 dengan gelar Bachelor of Arts dalam bidang Sastra Inggris.^[7]

Saat berkuliah di OSU, R. L. Stine bekerja sebagai editor di majalah humor The Sundial selama tiga tahun.^[1] Ia kemudian pindah ke New York City untuk mewujudkan kariernya sebagai penulis.^[4]

Karier

Stine menulis puluhan buku humor untuk anak-anak dengan menggunakan nama pena Jovial Bob Stine dan mendirikan majalah humor bernama Bananas.^[4] Bananas ditujukan bagi pembaca remaja dan diterbitkan oleh Scholastic Press dalam 72 edisi antara tahun 1975 dan 1984. Pada tahun 1986, Stine menulis novel horor pertamanya berjudul Blind Date,^[8] diikuti oleh novel-novel lainnya seperti The Babysitter, Beach House, Hit and Run, dan The Girlfriend.^[4] Ia juga menjadi penulis untuk acara TV anak berjudul Eureeka's Castle di Nickelodeon Network.^[9]

Pada 1989, Stine mulai menulis buku Fear Street.^[10] Sebelum menerbitkan seri Goosebumps, Stine sempat menulis tiga buku fiksi ilmiah humor dalam seri Space Cadets berjudul Jerks in Training, Bozos on Patrol, dan Losers in Space.^[11] Pada 1992, Stine dan Parachute menerbitkan Goosebumps.^[4] Ia juga memproduseri serial TV Goosebumps dari tahun 1995–1998,^[12] dan tiga permainan video; Escape from HorrorLand, Attack of the Mutant^[13] dan Goosebumps HorrorLand.^[14] Pada 1995, novel pertama Stine yang ditujukan bagi pembaca dewasa, berjudul Superstitious, diterbitkan.^[15] Ia juga menulis tiga novel dewasa lainnya, yakni The Sitter, Eye Candy,^[7] dan Red Rain.
