Academy Award untuk Penyuntingan Film Terbaik adalah salah satu penghargaan tahunan dari Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Nominasi untuk penghargaan ini berkorelasi erat dengan Academy Award untuk Film Terbaik. Nominasi untuk Academy Award ini ditentukan oleh pemungutan suara dari anggota pemilih dari Cabang Penyuntingan akademi; terdapat 220 anggota Cabang Penyuntingan pada tahun 2012.^[4] Para anggota dapat memilih hingga lima film yang memenuhi syarat sesuai urutan pilihan mereka; lima film dengan total suara terbesar dipilih sebagai nominasi.^[3] Penghargaan Akademi sendiri dipilih dari film-film yang dinominasikan melalui pemungutan suara berikutnya dari semua anggota aktif dan seumur hidup akademi.
