James Burnett, Lord Monboddo (dibaptis pada 25 Oktober 1714; wafat pada 26 Mei 1799), adalah seorang hakim, cendekiawan evolusi linguistik, filsuf dan deis Skotlandia. Ia sekarang dikenal sebagai pendiri linguistik sejarah komparatif modern. Pada 1767, ia menjadi hakim dalam Pengadilan Sesi.
