खनिज तेल (mineral oil) शब्द का प्रयोग दो अलग-अलग अर्थों में किया जाता है :
- पहला, 'क्रूड आयल' या प्राकृतिक रूप से मिलने वाला पेट्रोलियम तथा
- दूसरा पेट्रोलियम के आसवन से प्राप्त उत्पाद
आसवन से प्राप्त परिस्कृत खनिज तेल
इसके अनेकों उपयोग हैं-
- मशीनों में स्नेहक (लुब्रिकेन्ट) एवं शीतलक (कूलैन्ट) के रूप में
- शिशु तैल (बेबी आयल)
- पेट साफ करने वाली औषधियाँ
- ट्रान्सफार्मर तेल - ट्रान्सफार्मर की कुण्डलियों को ठण्डा रखता है एवं हवा व नमी को दूर रखता है। इसकी डाइएलेक्ट्रिक स्तेंथ अधिक है।
- संरक्षण के लिये (preservative)
