Vilnius (en polaco Wilno, en belaruso Vilnia) é a capital e cidade maior de Lituania cunha poboación de 553.904 habitantes, situada na provincia de Vilnius. A súa cidade vella foi declarada Patrimonio da Humanidade pola Unesco en 1994. En 2009 foi a Capital Europea da Cultura xunto coa cidade austríaca de Linz.

Vilnius está situada nun val formado polo río Viliya e rodeado case completamente por montañas. A cidade atópase a 105 km a SE. de Kaunas.
A poboación de Vilnius está composta por: 52,8% lituanos, 19,8% polacos, 19,2% rusos, 4,8% belarusos e 3,3% outras nacionalidades.
Vilnius é o principal centro económico de Lituania e un dos maiores centros financeiros dos Estados Bálticos. Aínda que a cidade só ten un 15% da poboación do país, Vilnius produce preto do 35% do PIB. Conforme mostran os estudos (o PIB da capital baseado na paridade do poder adquisitivo) en 2005 o PIB per cápita foi de US$ 33.100 US$, superior á media da Unión Europea.
Vilnius é tamén o maior centro administrativo de Lituania con tódolos principais centros políticos, económicos, sociais, e culturais do país.
