Nacionalismo inglés

O nacionalismo inglés é un movemento político nacionalista en Inglaterra que defende e promove a unidade do pobo inglés. Nun sentido amplo, abrangue movementos políticos e sociais motivados pola defensa da cultura, a lingua e a historia de Inglaterra, e baséase nun sentido de orgullo en Inglaterra e o pobo inglés. Os nacionalistas ingleses adoitan considerarse a si mesmos como ingleses no canto de británicos.

A nivel político, demanda o autogoberno para Inglaterra, cun Parlamento Inglés devolto. Outros nacionalistas ingleses prefiren o restablecemento dun estado soberano independente de Inglaterra, coa disolución do Reino Unido.

Historia

A historia do nacionalismo inglés é fonte de debate para os estudosos. O historiador Adrian Hastings escribiu que "É posible atopar historiadores que datan "o albor da conciencia nacional inglesa" (ou algunha frase semellante) en case todos os séculos dende o VIII ata o XIX".^[1]
