Savanović xogou as súas tres primeiras tempadas coma profesional en Serbia, dúas tempadas, en dúas etapas diferentes, no KK Železnik, e unha no KK Borac Čačak. Na súa segunda etapa no Železnik, gañou a Liga ABA no ano 2006. O 6 de outubro de 2006, asinou un contrato de dous anos co UNICS Kazan ruso. Tras dúas tempadas en Rusia, Savanović chegou á Liga ACB para xogar primeiro no Cajasol Sevilla, e logo no Power Electronics Valencia, equipo co cal debutou na Euroliga. Na súa primeira tempada na Euroliga, acadou 11.9 puntos e 4.6 rebotes por encontro en 21 partidos.[1] Ó remate da competición, foi elixido no segundo mellor equipo da Euroliga. O 20 de xuño de 2011, Savanović asinou un contrato de tres anos co Anadolu Efes SK turco.[2] O 18 de xullo de 2014, asinou un contrato de dous anos co Bayern München.[3]
Savanović participou coa selección serbia no Mundial da FIBA do ano 2010, onde Serbia perdeu no partido polo bronce contra Lituania por 99-88. Disputou tamén o Eurobasket de 2011, onde Serbia rematou na oitava posición, e Savanović fixo 13.4 puntos e 3.6 rebotes por partido.
