Belitung (en indonesio, Pulau Belitung e en inglés, Billiton) é unha illa de Indonesia localizada na costa oriental de Sumatra, no mar de Xava. A illa é famosa polos seus pementos e polo seu estaño. Foi posesión dos británicos desde 1812 ata que cedeu o control británico aos neerlandeses polo tratado anglo-neerlandés de 1824. A súa principal cidade é Tanjung Pandan.

Belitung está situada no estreito de Karimata, no límite entre o mar de Xava, ao sur, e o Mar da China Meridional, ao norte. Á súa vez, o estreito de Gaspar, ao oeste, a separa da veciña illa de Bangka.
Administrativamente, Belitung divídese en dous kabupaten (rexencias) na provincia de Bangka-Belitung:
Trátase dunha illa de tamaño medio, de 4478 km², cun relevo moderadamente abrupto, con varias montañas. A máis alta é o monte Tajam, cunha altura de só 500 m. Belitung é popular polas súas abstractas rocas de granito e as súas brillantes praias de area branca en Tanjung Tinggi, Tanjung Kelayang, Tanjung Binga e a illa de Lengkuas. O seu mar azul turquesa é moderadamente tranquilo e pouco profundo, adecuado para navegar a vela, o mergullo e a natación.
A poboación, de aproximadamente 200 000 habitantes, concéntrase en pequenas localidades, sendo as maiores Tanjung Pandan, no oeste, e Mangar, no leste. A etnia malaia é a principal de Belitung, aínda que hai representación importante de bugis, sundanés e etnia chinesa, que anteriormente traballaron para os neerlandeses na minería do estaño. Tamén hai grandes poboacións de balineses e maduraneses, que se asentaron alí na transmigración na éra de Suharto.
Belitung é fonte de estaño, arxila, caolín, mineral de ferro e areas de sílice. A empresa mineira australiana, BHP Billiton, deriva o seu nome desta illa. Tamén é un produtor de pementa, coco, aceite de palma e produtos da pesca. Os seus habitantes traballan como agricultores, pescadores e mineiros. A illa é de fácil acceso, con 4 voos diarios de 50 minutos desde Iacarta. Debido ás fantásticas praias de area branca, o turismo está comezando a converterse nunha parte importante da economía local.
Cakraningrat III ou K. A. Gending (1696-1700) dividiu o principado en 4 ngabehi : Badau, Sijuk, Belantu e Buding.
Cakraninggrat VI (1755-1785), irmán máis novo de Abudin, solicitou a axuda do sultán de Palembang.
A illa foi cedida aos británicos en 1812 polo sultán de Palembang. Estes, á súa vez, cedérona aos neerlandeses no marco do tratado anglo-neerlandés de 1824 subscrito en Londres. A illa nesa época, tiña grandes reservas de estaño, cuxa extracción iniciouse en 1851 cando Cakraningrat VIII asinou un convenio cos neerlandeses. Para as actividades mineiras estableceuse en 1869 na Haia, a empresa Billiton, a actual BHP Billiton. Para o traballo nas minas utilizáronse mineiros chineses, cuxos descendentes constitúen a segunda comunidade na illa logo da comunidade malaia.
Coa independencia de Indonesia, as actividades mineiras dos neerlandeses pasaron a Timah, unha empresa estatal indonesa.
