Apopa é un municipio do distrito de Tonacatepeque, pertencente ó departamento de San Salvador. O nome provén do náhuatl e significa "Lugar de neboeiros" ou "lugar de vapor de auga". A área do municipio é de 51,64 quilómetros cadrados. A poboación é de 250.000 habitantes.

A cabeceira do municipio é a cidade de Apopa, que se divide nos barrios El Pérdido, Centro, El Calvario e El Tránsito, e varias outras comunidades, entre as que están: Reparto Apopa, Madre Terra, La Ermita, Guadalupe, Las Orquídeas, Los Naranjos, Las Jacaranda, El Álamo e San Sebastián.
