Proosaruno on säkeisiin jakamaton eli proosan muotoon asemoitu runo. Modernin proosarunon isänä pidetään ranskalaista Charles Baudelairea. Hänen teoksensa Pariisin ikävä (1869) teki proosarunoudesta suosittua.[1] Suomessa 1950- ja 1960-luvuilla läpimurtonsa tehneistä kirjailijoista proosarunoja ovat julkaisseet muun muassa Risto Ahti, Väinö Kirstinä, Jyrki Pellinen, Mirkka Rekola, Kalevi Seilonen ja Marja-Liisa Vartio.
2000-luvulla on Suomessa alettu puhua uudesta proosarunobuumista, jonka keskeisiä vaikuttajia ovat olleet Markku Paasonen ja Saila Susiluotolähde?.
Ensimmäisenä proosarunoteoksena pidetään Aloysius Bertrandin teosta Yön Kaspar,[2] mutta ainakin se toi lajin Ranskan kirjallisuuteen[3] .
