Please can someone help me? I'm sorry, but I don't read or write your language
The specific name of this plant is Albizia julibrissin - Albizia comes from the name of the man who introduced the plant to Europe in 1749
Apparently julibrissin is supposed to come from the Persian name, but the English Wikipedia article says that the Persian name of this plant is shabkhosb which means the night sleeper .
شبخس Is the night sleeper a transliteration of ?
I can find the element shab (night) in many words in the online Persian dictionaries, but nothing like khosb. Should the name be transliterated as shab-khosb ?
Is there a Persian name similar to "Julibrissin"? (The Turkish name is "Gülibrişim") If so, what does it mean?
Thank you very much for your help

- Hi.
About Shabkhosb:
- Julibrissin is a Latinized and corrupted form of the Persian word Gul-i Abrisham گل ابریشم (Silk flower). Gul گل means flower and Abrisham ابریشمmeans silk.
I checked a Persian-english dictionary and it translates Gul-i Abrisham as "silk-tasseled acacia"!
-Khosb خسب is an older version of Kh(w)ab خواب, both mean sleeper (when used as suffix).
Take care. --ماني 23:14, ۱ ژانویه ۲۰۰۶ (UTC)
