Sveti Križ situas sur ebenaĵo, apud ĉefvojo Budapeŝto-Zagrebo.
Ĝis fine de la 1-a mondmilito la vilaĝo apartenis al Hungara reĝlando, al Zala (reĝa departemento), al distrikto de Csáktornya, poste al Reĝlando de serboj, kroatoj kaj slovenoj, ekde 1929 al Jugoslavio. En 1941 la germana armeo okupis la regionon el Hungario kaj post 10 tagoj transdonis ĝin al Hungario. Ĝis 1945 Szentkereszt estis parto de Hungario, ekde 1991 de Kroatio.
