superfortress (plural superfortresses)
- A massive and heavily protected fortress.
- A bomber aeroplane that is larger than and superior to by being technically advanced compared to the Boeing B-17 "flying fortress", specifically the Boeing B-29 long-range heavy bomber aeroplane that was developed during the early 1940s.
- 1979 April 28, Mary A. Lowry, “Those Wonderful Women in Their Flying Machines (review)”, in Gay Community News, page 10:
- These women flew fighter planes and B-29 superfortresses as test pilots as well as ferry pilots.
