- The meridian used for determining standard time.
- 1884, International Institute for Preserving and Perfecting Weights and Measures, Committee on Standard Time, What Shall be the Prime Meridian for the World?, page 22:
- It is intended that local time at any place on the surface of the globe shall generally be regulated by the standard meridian nearest or most convenient to such place in longitude.
