Etymology

Inherited from Old Catalan fivella, from Vulgar Latin *fībella, diminutive of Latin fībula. The reason for the change in the initial consonant is unclear, but it is reflected in several other Romance varieties as well. Doublet of fíbula, a borrowing from Latin.
