Etymology
Compound of pengadilan (“court”) + tinggi (“high”), calque from Japanese 高等法院 (kōtōhōin, literally “higher + court”), term used in East Asia. Continuation of Dutch raad van justisie, Japanese 高等法院 (kōtōhōin, “appellate court”, literally “higher + court”), and Dutch appelraad (“appellate court”).
