Etymology
From pelican + -ist. Coined by Jerome Clark in reference to claims that Kenneth Arnold’s 1947 UFO sighting was pelicans.

- (chiefly ufology, derogatory) Someone who attempts to explain away UFO reports by means of any explanation, however illogical.
