  1. (sports) standard distance; in skiing and some other endurance sports, a distance which is considered "normal" or "standard" for the particular event, e.g. in biathlon the skiing distance of 20 km, in Nordic combined the skiing distance of 15 km. In other events the term is used less, and there's also race-by-race variation in the exact number of km.
