horseshoe arch (plural horseshoe arches)

  1. (architecture) An arch having the circular curve continued below the horizontal line of its diameter, so that the opening at the bottom of the arch is narrower than the arch's full span. It is emblematic of Islamic, especially Moorish, architecture.
