From Hebrew דּוּנָם (dunam) or Arabic دُونُم (dūnum), from Turkish dönüm, from dönmek (“to turn”).[1] A probable calque of Byzantine Greek στρέμμα (strémma, “stremma”, literally “that which is turned”).
