From Proto-Albanian *dzetša, from earlier *dzedtja,[1] from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰed-i̯e/o-, from *ǵʰed- (“to defecate”). Compare Ancient Greek χέζω (khézō), Sanskrit हदति (hadati). Alternatively, Matzinger reconstructs *ȷ́edi̯ō.[2]
